WHY YOU SHOULD LEARN WRESTLING FOR JIU-JITSU
Just like the article "Not all Calories are Created Equally", in grappling and fighting in general, not all minutes are created equally. If you have a sense of what a basic single leg shot, fireman's carry, high-crotch, outside trip, sprawl, etc, you will have a solid foundation that fully rounds out your jiu-jitsu skills. To lack these fundamentals is to be imbalanced and to be susceptible to anyone who has a strong takedown.
HOW TO STAY SHARP AFTER HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE WRESTLING
Did you wrestle in high school or college? For many ex-wrestlers, they miss it. There aren't many leagues for working adults to do wrestling after college and so those skills you spent years crafting start to become dull. However, by doing jiu-jitsu, you're still able to apply your wrestling skills, but in a bit of a different context.
Instead of working for the pin, you're working for a submission or body positioning. By doing jiu-jitsu, you're still able to practice those wrestling skills you acquired. Your knowledge of front head lock, single leg takedowns, and much more will help you to pick up jiu-jitsu faster than if you had never done wrestling.
Moreover, by keeping your wrestling skills sharp, you are able to help teach other students how to improve their wrestling for jiu-jitsu or takedowns for jiu-jitsu in general. You will be in an environment where you can trade a skill for a skill and improve as a team.
