"My dad was really into boxing and things like that so when the UFC came along it just really stuck out to me. I was familiar with wrestling too from my older brothers and things like that. So when I seen them doing what looked to me like wrestling, but they're also choking the guys and, you know, twisting their arms and things like that, it just really intrigued my interest..."
When I stopped wrestling in high school, I needed something to do. And this was similar, along the same lines and I kind of got into this. A little boxing, then went out to Iowa, to any good club out there so I just kinda ended up sticking with jiu jitsu over the standup stuff. Great environment to train in. Everybody that coaches definitely knows what they're doing. It's not a school that has brown belts that don't know things that white belts should know. Cause I've been places and visited places like traveling around and if you swing in somewhere sometimes it's a little unwelcoming or even other times too. I mean Nick keeps it super casual and formal in a good way (scared to upset Nick). Some schools are super strict on etiquette and some stuff like that. If you're just looking to get into stuff with people who know what they're talking about- great place to be.
